What separates a deep clean from a very thorough regular clean
A regular cleaning maintains a surface. A deep cleaning restores it. The distinction is not effort — it is reach. Routine visits work the horizontal planes people see and touch every day. A deep clean adds everything above eye level, below knee level, behind heavy objects and inside enclosed spaces.
Time is the honest measure. A three-bedroom home that takes three hours to clean well on a maintenance visit will take six to eight for a proper deep clean, sometimes across two days. Any company quoting a deep clean at close to their standard rate is either not doing the work or has redefined the word.
Grout is usually the biggest single item. Tile floors and shower walls hold soil in the porous grout line, and no amount of mopping lifts it — mopping moves dirty water across it. Deep cleaning means working the line directly with a brush and an appropriate cleaner, and rinsing rather than smearing. On a badly neglected bathroom floor that alone can take an hour.
Kitchens run a close second. Grease behaves like a varnish: it collects airborne dust and hardens into a film on cabinet doors, range hood filters and the wall behind the cooktop. It does not respond to general-purpose spray. It needs a degreaser with real dwell time, and in some cases two passes.
Then there is everything simply out of reach: the tops of door frames, ceiling fan blades, vent covers, the crown of kitchen cabinets, light fixtures full of dust and insects, window tracks packed with grit. Individually small, collectively the reason a deep-cleaned home smells different when you walk in.
Deep cleans suit specific moments — moving in, moving out, after renovation dust, before a holiday, at the start of spring, or simply when a home has not had a full reset in over a year. Many clients use one to open a recurring plan, so ongoing visits start from a genuinely level baseline.

Worth knowing
When cleaning stops and repair begins
Part of doing this properly is telling you what cannot be fixed with a brush. Grout that has lost its seal will stay grey no matter how long it is scrubbed, because the soil is inside the material rather than on it — that needs regrouting or a colour seal. Silicone caulk with black mould underneath the surface has to be cut out and replaced; bleach only lightens the top layer and it returns within weeks.
Etched stone, worn floor finish, and hard-water scale that has pitted a chrome fixture are the same story. We will always try the correct method first, and if the result is limited by the material rather than the effort, you get told directly and in writing. Overpromising on a deep clean is the fastest way to disappoint someone who paid for hours.

A one-bedroom apartment is typically five to six labour hours. A three-bedroom house with two baths runs eight to twelve, which a two-person crew completes in a long day. Larger homes, or homes with heavy build-up, are often better split across two days — we tell you which at the assessment rather than after we have started.
Usually two to three times a standard visit, because it is two to three times the labour. We quote by the hour with the crew size stated, so you can see exactly where the time goes instead of comparing two flat numbers that mean different things.
If nobody has cleaned inside the oven, behind the fridge or along the grout in more than a year, you need a deep clean first. If those were done within the last six months and the home is simply behind, a standard visit will get you there. Send us a few photos and we will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.
It helps a lot. Cabinet interiors, pantry shelves and under-sink cupboards can only be properly cleaned when they are empty, and we do not want to be the ones deciding where your things go. Anything you leave full, we clean around and note on the sign-off sheet.
We move what is safe to move on our own — dining chairs, nightstands, light sofas, and refrigerators or ranges that roll out cleanly on their feet. We will not lift anything that risks the floor, the appliance, or our crew. If something needs two more people or a dolly, we flag it so you can arrange it before the visit.
It removes a large part of it, because most odour lives in the same films and soils we are taking off. What it cannot do is treat odour absorbed into carpet padding, drywall or HVAC ductwork. Where that is the source we will say so and point you toward the right specialist rather than selling you a second deep clean.
Consistently, yes. Buyers read cleanliness as maintenance. A deep-cleaned kitchen and bathroom photograph better, show better, and cost a fraction of any other pre-listing improvement. Most sellers book it in the week before photography rather than before the first open house.
